The Zaanse Schans is a beautiful preserved village with a variety of historical houses, warehouses, and working industrial windmills. It feels like you’re traveling back in time! You will experience how life was between the 18th and 19th centuries. We’ll enjoy a pleasant stroll past the old wooden houses with their preserved original details, like ceremonial doors and carved lintels. We will visit a working windmill, taste local chocolate at the chocolate shop, indulge in a Gouda cheese tasting at the Henri Willig cheese farm, and conclude with a traditional handcraft demonstration of clog making.
This octagonal mill features a rotating cap and an external gallery. Since its restoration and partial rebuild in 1960, it has been equipped to grind coloring materials into pigments.
At the cheese farm of Henri Willig, we will indulge in a Gouda and Edam cheese tasting. Henri Willig cheeses rank among the top 10 cheesemakers globally. If you're a cheese lover, prepare to enter cheese heaven! With 30 unique flavors, Henri Willig designs their cheeses specifically for travelers like you.
Join us for a wooden shoe craft demonstration and satisfy your curiosity about how clogs are made. At the clog museum, we'll provide comprehensive insights into the history and craftsmanship of clogs. You'll even have the opportunity to try on or purchase a pair of wooden shoes!
